Structuring a Libretto

Many of the posts here are, or will be, focused on the theory of internal concepts that must be manifest in an outward form. That outward form is what makes up the Libretto, a theatrical guide to the slotted time and space available to stage a presentation of the subject matter. What the form of that subject matter is, or will become in the final revision of the material is somewhat unclear at this stage of revising the original concept.

Simply put, the original concept is to condense the creation of the universe, the things described in the bible (the firmament, creatures mankind, heaven and hell, and eternity) , to condense these down to the appropriate time-frame and physical limitations of a stage production and to do so from a New Church perspective.

I must say that this is a magnominus task that brings with it a high level of complexity that must be simplified and shaped into an enthralling theatrical piece.

Previous editions of the script, which is different from a Libretto, have attempted to do this with varying results.

The price started out as a screenplay and was quite different from the concept that now resides within the intended mission. That piece was retitled "The Celestial Manifesto". It has been set aside for another day.

When rewrites began to occur for "I Am Alpha and Omega" they took the form of a stage presentation, as opposed to cinema. One version of the piece was designed for a "Hemispherical Theatre" but work on that version stopped because the technological advances in computer control technology was making the design concepts moot. So I put that version off until the technology settled in. I think that has just about fulfilled itself. And both CGI and stage technologies have leveled off, with advanced occurring, but not so drastically that the stage design concepts will be blown assunder by the changes.

None-the-less, the Hemispherical Design is not the primary focus of attention.A proscenium stage is far more common and available. The question is "What kind of tech would be used in the show?"

Whereas, previous designs for the show leaned heavily on what kind of tech to use in implementing the effects? the next Revision will be concentrating on the core content that must be conveyed. How to convey that content will be addressed after the creative structure, informationally, is locked into the time and space limitations.

More later, AG
